AUCTION VS. HOUSEHOLD SALE!

Can We Talk? Having run a Household Tag Sale Company for over 17 years, I can speak with authority on the merits of Household Sale vs. Auction. During that 17-year period I was always able to convince my clients that Household Sales were the way to go…the reasoning…we'll have more control..we can ask any prices we want, etc., etc. and..I usually got the job! In Auction School, I frequently engaged and riled my auction instructor about the huge merits of household sales using the same old arguments. He chastised me for not doing a good service to my clients, in not getting the best money for their possessions by using the AUCTION method of marketing and sale.

Having experienced many successful years in the auction profession and running an ever-growing Auction Center, let me show you..if you're considering a tag sale vs. auction..some examples of why my Auction Instructor was absolutely right! You may not have the most famous estate in the world like Jackie Onassis or Barbara Streisand, but can you imagine their items being offered in a tag sale?

Let me give you some examples: We cleared out a client's mother's house a couple of years ago and then were asked to get a piece of furniture out of the client's basement..it was dusty, broken lower shelf, it was oak and "had the look". We loaded it onto our truck, brought it to our auction house, cleaned it up and realized it was a Stickley Buffet! Price realized AT AUCTION-$9,000! That's Nine Thousand Folks!

Do you think for a moment anyone in a tag sale company would have priced it at $9,000? We've sold pocket watches for $900-$1,000; we've sold small tiny items which would have ended up in a .25 Cent Box in a tag sale, for $100's of dollars at our auction house. We've sold books for $100's of dollars at our auction house. Tag Sale companies don't want to spend the time researching books and place a $1 Sign in front of the Bookshelves…not serving you, the client! We've sold Greeting Cards $400-$500 at auction for one album alone! I can give you hundreds of other examples of why tag sale companies don't serve you well, plus a lot of other things that you haven't even considered.

WHAT WILL YOU DO WITH THE LEFTOVERS? A Household/Tag Sale is like a glorified Garage Sale…loads of stuff left over after it's done! Someone will get the leftovers for a pittance.

AT AUCTION, EVERYTHING SELLS, even your nuts, bolts, screws, plastic, etc. What you may have lost on a piece of furniture, you'll make up with the money you receive from the junk! You'll have the satisfaction of knowing the public bid on your items fairly and no employee had a chance to buy it first and stash it in a closet!

Finally, ask yourself two questions:

1. "Why do Dealers sleep in front of a house about to open for a Household/Tag Sale?" It's because they know they'll be able to "steal" it (get it for less than it's worth) at an unfair price from your estate or home.

2. Would you rather have ONE person, usually the tag sale manager, price your possessions, or would you rather have a HUNDRED people bidding up the price and giving you the truly Fair Market Value of your items at Auction?

There's a reason why the Internal Revenue Service and the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice considers Auctions as the source for comparables in determining FAIR Market VALUE.....and not Tag Sales!

We can sell your house, your cars, your boats, and your lifetime possessions, either one piece are the entire place AT THE AUCTION!

If you're considering a Household Tag Sale and don't know about Auctions, you owe it to yourself to know the difference! To find out more about the Auction Method of Marketing, call Ann today at (585) 872-9150 or (585) 729-1215 with no obligation and LET'S TALK!
